Columbia Housing receives 3 National NAHRO Awards of Merit for partnerships with Prisma Health and the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control

Columbia Housing recently received notification of 46 NAHRO Awards of Merit in the categories of Administrative Innovation and Resident Services from the National Association of Housing & Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO). Three (3) of the Awards of Merit were awarded for Columbia Housing's commitment to ensuring its residents have equitable access to quality healthcare options. Columbia Housing's partnerships with Prisma Health and the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) are a demonstration of the power of partnerships between public health and affordable housing advocates to address healthcare inequities.

Healthy Seniors was a partnership with the largest healthcare system in South Carolina, Prisma Health, designed to provide convenient access and meet the healthcare needs of Columbia Hosing's 300+ senior resident populations residing in its four (4) high rise communities. Staying healthy during the pandemic is particularly important for seniors and those at increased risk of severe illness.

Flu Shots for Seniors was launched in response to the emergent need to get Columbia Housing's senior resident population vaccinated for the highly contagious seasonal virus, influenza. The influenza virus (more commonly known as the Flu) is a serious illness that can infect anyone but is extremely harmful to adults 65 years and older, who account for most hospitalizations and deaths from flu and from COVID-19.

On-Site COVID-19 Testing was a partnership with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) to provide free COVID-19 testing to all of Columbia Housing's residents. This partnership recognized the importance of making free COVID-19 testing accessible to vulnerable populations with limited resources.
